About Us

Hello, I’m Angela. Our home in Buxton is perfect to quickly escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, whilst retaining all the conveniences of a large traditional market town. Buxton is nestled in the Peak District National Park and as the highest town in England is truly rural. We love walking, cycling and generally exploring the wonders of the Peaks, be it along the dedicated paths of the old railways such as the Monsal and Tissington trails, or strolling along the old industrial canal routes. We often attend performances at the historic Opera House and Pavilion Arts Centre, many of which go on international tour. During the weekend we enjoy browsing in the Pavilion Garden artisan markets now held in the recently restored Victorian Octagon, having a coffee on the terrace whilst listening to local bands playing in the Victorian bandstand. Winter is a magical time, particularly when it snows, and in the Spring new-born lambs and spring blooms make for a wonderful scene. But it’s really in the summer that Buxton and its surrounds come alive, hosting its renowned International Festival, holding an annual Well Dressing event (now in it’s 182nd year) and its own acclaimed Fringe Festival – a real cultural bonanza! Autumn is a more restful time, with the surrounding woods and countryside in magnificent colour giving a relative sense of quiet and peace.

We fell in love at first sight with this beautiful period house, which has been sensitively renovated and modernised. It was once a Victorian school house and retains many of it’s original features including stunning Derbyshire stone fireplaces and cast iron surrounds in all the bedrooms. The dining room still has it’s original Victorian red and black floor tiles and with William Morris wallpaper retains an authentic historic ambience. The tastefully decorated bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms provides a boutique hotel experience, but with the added comfort of being in your own home space.

With easy walking to all the amenities the town and countryside have to offer we often find we use our car less in Buxton than we do in London.

Whilst predominantly our family holiday home we are happy to share the pleasure with likeminded guests looking for that idyllic and relaxing break.
